I like to photograph people in the environment that they feel most comfortable with. Family portraits are no different. I prefer a location shoot rather than studio photography for the family portrait as I think that people are not as relaxed and the result is too contrived. After all, a studio is not the most natural of places. Much better to be at home, particularly if you have young kids or down the local park with the dog.
